Description

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) Operations Center, located in Wylie, Texas, underwent a transformative project led by MYCON. The original facility, operational since 1956, was replaced by a state-of-the-art center designed to serve as the central hub for operations catering to 1.7 million people across North Texas.

The $11.6 million project aimed to create a modern facility, encompassing a 14,343 square foot, one-story building. This new center not only replaced the aging infrastructure but also enhanced capabilities to meet the growing demands of the region. The facility accommodates offices for 30 employees with the potential for expansion to 45, emphasizing scalability to support future operational needs. The building structure, a testament to engineering ingenuity, comprises tilt-wall panels adorned with a thin brick veneer, stone, and structural steel joist with a metal deck. This combination not only provides a sturdy and durable structure but also contributes to the aesthetic appeal of the facility. The project included a partially hardened structure designed to withstand major storms. This feature ensures that the center remains operational even in adverse weather conditions, reinforcing its role as a key facility for water management in the region. Several vital components were incorporated into the design to fulfill the diverse operational needs of the NTMWD. These components were strategically integrated to enhance efficiency, functionality, and the district’s ability to respond to emergencies.

Key elements include:

  • Large Restrooms with Locker Rooms and Showers: Providing essential facilities for personnel working around the clock.
  • Training Rooms: Spaces dedicated to ongoing professional development and training activities.
  • Operations Command Center with Video Wall: Equipped with advanced technology to monitor and manage water district operations effectively.
  • Breakroom with Kitchen: A communal space for employees to recharge and collaborate.
  • Laboratory: A 600 square foot facility for swift water sample testing, ensuring water quality meets stringent standards.
  • Chemical Storage: Secure and controlled storage for essential chemicals used in water treatment.
  • Controlled Access: Enhancing security measures to safeguard critical infrastructure.

Conclusion

The successful completion of the NTMWD Operations Center by MYCON represents a significant milestone in enhancing water management capabilities across North Texas. The state-of-the-art facility not only replaces an aging structure but also positions the water district to meet the evolving needs of the growing population. The collaboration between MYCON and NTMWD demonstrates a commitment to resilience, efficiency, and the provision of high-quality water services to the communities relying on this vital infrastructure.
