MYCON General Contractors, Inc. Begins Construction on New U-Haul U-Box Facility in Grand Prairie, Texas

Dallas, Texas, January 18, 2023 — Dallas-based MYCON General Contractors, Inc. (MYCON) has been awarded a fourth contract with North America’s largest do-it-yourself moving and self-storage operator, U-Haul. The general contractor has started construction on the new 59,000 SF U-Box storage facility in Grand Prairie, Texas.

“Dallas-Fort Worth’s rapid population growth over the past few years has dramatically increased the demand for self-storage facilities,” said Jason Meuth, CRRP, MYCON Project Director. “We are honored to continue our partnership with U-Haul to help them meet the needs of their customers.”

The 2.5-acre infill site is located at 3020 I-20 W in Grand Prairie, Texas, in the Northeast corner of Interstate 20 and Texas State Highway 360.

The new U-Box facility will sit adjacent to U-Haul’s existing self-storage facilities. The project scope includes the addition of new utility services, mass grading, pad prep, and new paving areas. The single-story building will utilize a tilt-wall construction method, the first of its kind for U-Haul.

U-Box storage refers to the attached, secure warehouse space that will be used to store U-Box containers. U-Box containers are portable storage and moving containers that U-Haul delivers directly to a location (home, office, etc.) for packing. Once U-Box containers are loaded, U-Haul picks them up and delivers them to the desired destination or safely stores them at one of their U-Box storage facilities until delivery is scheduled. U-Box containers can be shipped anywhere in the world.

Construction is estimated to be completed in May of 2023.
